CycleBar Midtown #SweatDate

Remember when VH1 and MTV both played music? Comparing the two (back then) was pretty difficult and it really came down to personal preference. Which DJ’s did you like better? Whose marketing hit you in the right spot? Who played more Brittney? I feel almost the same about trying to compare CycleBar and FlyWheel. Although I don’t think either studio will ever give up spinning and replace it with garbage reality television, picking your preference between the two is going to be just that - your preference.

CycleBar is a new spin studio in Midtown that opened its doors this past fall and is doing all of the right things to win you over. With high energy instructors, good vibes, motivating tunes and the right equipment and technology in a spacious 55 bike arena, it’s hard not to love something (or everything) about this place.

New to spinning? CycleBar offers a free 30 minute introductory class to get you familiar with the bike, the ride, the different moves and the studio. No one likes to be the new kid or uncomfortable and CycleBar does a great job getting you set to rock your ride. If you know how to spin but still want to check it out before committing to a class pack, CycleBar still has you covered with a free first ride for whichever class you are looking to check out, just ask!

You may feel like you are walking into a Swedish art museum upon walking in the front doors with the bright whites and glossy reds everywhere. It’s clean and modern vibe leaves you feeling excited and ready to sweat. Free shoe rental comes with each class, but if you prefer to bring your own these bikes are SPD friendly. Checking in is simple and quick on the iPads right at the entrance. Find your name, note your bike number and grab your shoes before you head on back to the stadium. If it’s your first time let the front desk know and they will get you squared away with paperwork, the studio, and put you on a first name basis with your instructor.

Cycling is one of those classes that you will hate yourself if you forget to bring your water. The owners at CycleBar must not want you to hate yourself because they offer FREE water bottles before walking into the spin studio. This is a lifesaver for attention-deficient people like me. Slip your shoes on and head on into the stadium. Bikes are numbered with a placard on the front of each bike. Find your bike (assistance is available if desired) and get your bike to the right setting. There is always someone there in addition to the instructor coming around to make sure that you’re all squared away with your bike settings, clipping in and out, and the next 50 minutes of your life. I always get on the bike and start pedaling just to ease myself into it. Take off the resistance and just roll it out to get your body moving.

With arm-work mixed in through your whole ride, CycleBar offers a full-body workout to heart pumping music that keeps you pushing until the end. The class is an energy charged 50 minute ride with motivating music, clear instructions, and some fun visuals along the way. Something CycleBar has done to set themselves apart is their integrations of music VIDEOS. Yes...Videos! For one or two songs on your ride your instructor may put up a music video on the screen. This is a fun distraction from the burn. The instructors are great at adjusting the dim-lit lights and the volume of the music along with video graphics to keep you rocking your ride for an unparalleled multi-sensory experience. One of my favorite parts of class is when we get to hide our bike computers and just spin without distraction. Whatever we feel we need in that moment - We get a song to just ride and fuel our bodies with the energy we need to carry ourselves through our day. It’s an awesome variation to the traditional ride and encourages you to focus inward, pay attention and honor what exactly what your body needs. The cycling version of Savasana...almost.

With several different types of rides these talented instructors keep things fresh for you. Debating a Friday night spin to kickstart your weekend? CycleBar teams up with local breweries to bring you Happy Hour rides and get you from sweaty to ready for the weekend! Always doing their best to tie into the community and give back CycleBar is a great place to sweat, connect and recharge yourself.

CycleBar is doing all of the right things to become a deserving regular destination in your fitness routine. Give it a try. I promise you won't regret it.
