Thanksgiving Thanks

As Thanksgiving comes to an end, I want to step back and share. It is unfortunate that this holiday for us to call for thankfulness comes only once a year. It is filled with family and friends, overeating sugar covered vegetables and casseroles that we only make once per year, and drinking an assortment of our favorites. If you are like me, we tend to stuff ourselves so full of “thanks” to the point that we are comatose on the nearest, couch, bed or even bathroom floor next to the toilet.

Our ancestors celebrated a year of good harvest, but in the age of supermarkets and delivery EVERYTHING, we are living light years from that reality. Commerce and technology have made most foods available at our fingertips around the world. I think most of us now use this holiday as a warm-up for the upcoming winter holiday season. Let’s start stretching our stomachs and building our sugar, or more importantly, alcohol tolerances. This is all great fun, yet perhaps a little disingenuous. I try to remind myself to be thankful everyday, not only for our the treats I get to stuff my cheeks with, but for all the people, choices, opportunities, hardships and dumb luck that continues to shape me. Thanksgiving is a great holiday to remind me that I do not share my gratitude enough on a daily basis.

I am thankful for my family, my friends, my health and my adventures. I am thankful for new beginnings and the wonderful people I get to meet on this journey of life. It seems generic but these are the things that make me smile and the things I hold close to my heart.

As this most recent adventure starts, I am thankful for what I have, the experiences that have grown me and the opportunities that have led me here. I look forward to sharing what I love. I am someone that loves openly and intensely. I hope you get to see that. Whether it is a great sweat, a new found bite to eat, a run in with an old friend, or just remembering how soft my dog’s ears are, sharing my experiences with others makes all the more worth while and enjoyable..

So as we kick off Sweat and Sweets, I hope to be able to remind you of the simple things in life. Be mindful. Practice gratitude. Never forget the little things, even people, that helped you get to where you are today. Take time to look back and appreciate everything that has come your way, both hardships and good times. Reflect and let them help develop who you are. Radiate good vibes. Your life is a constant fusion of your surroundings and your inherent self.

So, on this Thanksgiving weekend, join me in taking the time to be present and thankful for everything you are lucky enough to have. Count the little things and let them carry you on in this adventure. This is all we’ve got.

Can’t wait,

Love,

Grace
